Roots & Leaves Opens Tanoan Kava, Albuquerque’s Newest Alcohol-Free Social Bar

Roots & Leaves Kava & Teas is excited to officially announce the opening of Tanoan Kava at 2500 12th St NW in Albuquerque, New Mexico, directly adjacent to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center.

The new location marks the company’s eighth operating kava bar and second New Mexico location following the opening of Casa de Kava in Santa Fe.

As more people look for alternatives to traditional nightlife and alcohol-centered socializing, kava bars are becoming part of a larger cultural shift happening across the country.

Whether someone is sober curious, cutting back on alcohol, taking a break from drinking, or simply looking for a different kind of night out, more people are discovering they can still enjoy a vibrant social life without hangovers or alcohol-related risks.

A Different Kind of Social Bar Experience

Located along Albuquerque’s growing 12th Street corridor near the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, Tanoan Kava was created to offer another option — a welcoming social bar where people can gather, connect, work remotely during the day, meet friends in the evening, and enjoy late-night socializing without alcohol.

Tanoan Kava serves:

  • Kava

  • Botanical teas

  • Alcohol-free social drinks

  • Remote-work friendly seating and Wi-Fi

  • Themed nights and community events

  • Games and social activities

  • A relaxed day-to-night bar atmosphere

“Tanoan Kava gives people another way to go out, connect, unwind, and still feel good the next day,” said Tobin Osteen, founder. “Whether someone does not drink, is sober curious, wants a late-night option without alcohol, or just wants something different, we want them to know they can still have a full social life here.”

Why Albuquerque Needs More Alcohol-Free Nightlife Options

That shift is especially meaningful in New Mexico, a state that continues to face some of the nation’s highest alcohol-related health and traffic statistics. As more people look for healthier social alternatives, kava bars are emerging as a growing option for connection and nightlife without alcohol.

Roots & Leaves Kava & Teas now operates six Colorado locations and two New Mexico locations, continuing to expand the movement around alcohol-free nightlife and alternative social bars.

If you’ve never experienced a kava bar before, Tanoan Kava offers a welcoming place to start.
